Variant premium notes

Colourful collectible figures lined up on a shelf

Collectors do not pay for “a Marvel comic” in the abstract. They pay for a specific cover treatment, a print run story, and sometimes a sequential number that other readers can see in the catalogue. A variant premium note isolates that difference.

What the note covers

  • common versus foil or textured digital covers on the same story
  • first-appearance digital issues versus later reprint drops of the same characters
  • chase copies and ultra-rare designations as they were labelled at release
  • when a premium looks like cover art demand rather than sequential trophy hunting

We stay inside collector language. We do not dress a premium as a forecast.

Limits we write down

If only one foil copy is listed, we will not pretend there is a robust premium curve. One lonely ask is a data point, not a staircase. The note will say when the sample is a handful of listings and when it is a crowded book.
